This article illustrates the easiest method of creating a key for
this vehicle. It features the Fast

The current series of Harley
Davidson motorcycles have
introduced some new keyways.
They were published in the
11th edition of the Fast Facts
auto key guide without specific
key numbers, as there were no
aftermarket sources at that time.
Jet Keys have since introduced
five new keyways to their list
of motorcycle keys. They are:
HYD15-NP, HYD16-NP, HYD17-
NP, HYD18-NP and HYD19-NP.
These new keys address the
need for aftermarket keys to the
2012+ Sportster line and the new
Street 500 and Street 750 2015+.
This article addresses key
making for the 2015 Street 500.
When you are tasked with making a key to one of these bikes,
this information should make
the job a quick and profitable
undertaking. The Street 750
will use the same locksets and
Locksets found on the Street
500 and Street 750 are Minda™
products, manufactured in India.
The cylinders are “convenience”
configuration. This simply means
that all wafer bittings will be
found on one side of the keyway.
The key is “double-sided,” for
convenience. There are “three”
depths in this “eight position”
cylinder. We will be code cut-
ting the key on an HPC 1200CM
code machine. At this point there
are no published codes for the
series and the code is only found
on a stamped aluminum tag that
accompanies the original keys.
There are two lock cylinders
found on this vehicle.
The gas cap has a cylinder is
shown in Figure 1. This cylinder
will contain wafers in positions
4-5- 6-7 & 8. The key is “shoulder
Gauged,” but the gas cylinder
“Tip Gauges” the key. The operating key will not fully enter the
gas cap cylinder. Right (
clockwise) rotation of the key will
retract locking latches to allow
the cap to be lifted and removed.
The Ignition cylinder, shown
in Figure 2, is mounted below the
center of the handlebars. This
cylinder will contain wafers in
positions 1-2-3-4-5- 6-7 & 8. The
ignition cylinder is “shoulder
Gauged.” The cylinder is “
convenience.” Wafer bittings will be
found on only one side of the keyway. Wafer bittings were found
at the “bottom” of the keyway
shown in the photo. The ignition
cylinder controls the steering
lock and electrical power lock.
Right rotation of the cylinder
unlocks the steering lock and
powers the bike.
