The Smart- Box auto programmer will program auto keys,
find pin codes,
clone keys and
test the frequency of remotes.
It is a small self-contained unit
that uses a tablet for a display. It
is provided with a hard carrying
case and all the cables and adapters needed to work with almost
I first saw this product at the
ALOA 2017 convention up in
the Chicago area in July. As I
was walking the show floor, I
came across the SmartBox at
two different distributor booths,
Locksmith Resource and Keyless Ride. When I stopped by
the Locksmith Resource booth
they had a Ford Mustang in the
booth upon which they were
demonstrating the product, so I
stepped in line to get a personal
demonstration of the SmartBox. I
spoke with a representative from
Locksmith Resource and they
were happy to talk about how the
product worked and gave me a
The demonstration took about
10 minutes and we spoke for
another 20 minutes afterward.
By the end of the conversation,
they agreed to supply me with
a SmartBox to do an evaluation.
So let me tell you all about the
The unit is small, measuring at
4” x 8” by 1.5” deep with a tablet
that is used as a display and
contains the app needed to allow
user interface to the SmartBox,
(see photo 1). Underneath the
SmartBox and tablet you will
find all the cables and adapters
(see photo 2).
Setup and Programming:
The setup process is simple,
(see photo 3). A small cable connects the tablet and the SmartBox. The OBD cable is connected to the SmartBox and will
supply power to the unit when
it is plugged into a vehicle. The
small power supply can be used
to supply the unit if you are not
working at the vehicle. So let’s
jump right in.
As soon as you plug the
SmartBox into the tablet, the app
for the SmartBox automatically
starts to run. The first thing you
will see is the log on screen, (see
photo 4). Enter the PIN number and you will go to the main
screen, (see photo 5).
At the main screen there are
six options to choose from. Programming, Chip, Frequency, Usage logs, Updates and Training.
Usage logs, updates and training
are self-explanatory. Frequency
is an area where you are able
to test to see the frequency of a
remote, simple enough.
The chip option does a couple
of things. It will allow you to read
a chip or clone a chip. Reading is
great when you want to confirm
the original chip type or the chip
