The lock shown in figure 2,
is Codelocks model CL4000.
The CL4000 is a medium duty
electronic keyless lock offering
all the functions and the benefit
of full size lever handles,
which allow it to be used as the
primary lock on doors where
a knob operated lock would
not be suitable, or is precluded
because of ADA mandates.
Those features make it an ideal
replacement lock — especially
for customers that are looking
for an economical and reliable
Electronic Access Control
locking device.
The CL 4000 can operate
through half a million cycles
on four AAA batteries. It also
has connections for remote
unlocking and is equipped with a
key bypass.
Pete Gamble, a locksmith
friend, says he has made
the Codelocks his retro-
lock of choice because of its
dependability, warranty, and
relatively low retail price of
approximately $300.
At any rate, I think this
lock (as well as their 5000
series) is a good stand alone
lock for locksmiths that are
contemplating “getting into”
EAC work.

Vacuum For Key Machine
Here are some ideas for a
key machine vacuum system
we recently developed to help
remove the chips from our

two most frequently used key
machines, a Framon and Rytan.
This utilizes inexpensive 1”
PVC plumbing pipe and fittings
attached to a small canister
vacuum with 1-¼” flexible hose.
For both machines we used a
crevice tool aimed as closely
as possible to the contact point
between the blank and cutter,
(see figure 3).
It was necessary to increase
the ID of the pipe couplings
slightly to accommodate the
1-3/8” shank of the crevice tools.
